Recent history, in Latin America, Europe and Africa alike, has been shapened by intense political processes with great interests in dispute, which also have originated violent conflicts and severe Human Right violations.
LASO is well aware of this context and actively supports the full public information on these facts. beyond a tragical chronicle, we want to expose the causes and mechaniosms that originate and inform such conflicts.
We have researched the history and political culture of key countries in Latin America, such as Colombia, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Mexico, and the Balkan region in Europe. Frequently conflict originates in old inequalities and exclusions, and feeds on big economic interests. But they also root in identity and culture, and through the narratives of violence, conflicts shape new imaginaries which people recall them on every step. LASO works for “peace culture” and local conciliation processes.
